Fundraising Philosophy

Family participation in fundraising activities in the State College Lions Youth Football League is not mandatory. We realize that with school activities and all of the other sports your children may participate in, you can be overwhelmed with fundraising requests. That being said, football is one of the most expensive sports to field a team. It costs well over $250 to equip a player in all of their gear, and there are insurance costs, EMT's, referees and other expenses on top of that. While we do have corporate sponsors to help defray some of these costs, some organization-wide fundraising still goes on.

Since participating in our events is voluntary, we do like to reward those families who take the time and effort to help us out. In past years, some of the kids got to keep their game day jerseys or pom poms, or received Lions sports bags or jackets. Lion's logo apparel and other cool stuff is our way of saying "Thank You" for helping us reach our fundraising goals.

In our inaugural season, we held a community yard sale in the spring and sold sodas at the 4th of July Fireworks Festival. During the season, we had 2 Marianna's hoagie sales and the novel Cow Chip Bingo. We had a lot of success and hope to build on that success each year.

For our 2007 season, we repeated a few of the things we tried in 2005 and 2006, and we had a couple of fun new ideas up our sleeves.

As you read this, we are organizing events for the 2010 season. As of now, we are planning to sell Sheetz coupon cards and Marianna's hoagies. We will pass along details as the time draws closer to each event.
